Debian.

Because it works, and I use it, and you asked my opinion.
But Debian sucks and/or is bad at doing my favorite thing!
It sounds like you already have your alternative answer in mind. Just go with that answer instead. Life is short.
If you regret your decision, you could always try Debian.
